Team Background and Philosophy
Team Bulldog
(formally Team Iron Pony) has been racing up and down the East Coast for the past nine years, and the team has changed and grown dramatically over these years. What began as a team of almost exclusively juniors has evolved into a team of all ages and ability. We are a team that does way more than just show up at venues and race. One of our biggest changes has just occurred, that being our new retail shop affiliation. Our former shop sponsor is in the process of selling his business and we are now partnered with Cycle Works, a newly opened shop located in Byram, New Jersey. Our relationship has a very solid foundation with the owners who have a strong focus on racing. We are looking forward to a long and prosperous alliance.
As noted above, Team Bulldog does more than race. We are advocates of trail access and trail maintenance. In New Jersey’s inaugural year (1996) of official mountain bike trail maintenance (a program known as Pay Dirt that has been adopted in many states across the country), Team Bulldog accumulated more hours than any other team in the state. During that first year, we also successfully opened a system of multi-use trails at Kittatinny Valley State Park in Andover, New Jersey. Since that year we have kept our trail maintenance hours very high.
Team Bulldog is a group that gives back to the sport that we love so much. We are in our fifth year of sponsoring races and held a four-race series in 1999 hosting over 1000 racers. Three of our four races were held at Mountain Creek, a newly renovated ski resort in Vernon, New Jersey. This is the only ski resort open for mountain biking in New Jersey. Two of these races were also part of the four-race New Jersey State Championship Series. For year 2000, we will again be hosting two of the New Jersey State Championship Series races.
As our name suggests, we are a race team and fair very well competitively as well. As you will see in our individual racer resumes, the team members participate in many events and are successful. Team members compete in not only mountain bike races but road races and multi-sport events as well. Above racing success, however, we always conduct ourselves in a professional manner. We understand that one mountain biker’s actions can impact many. Additionally, we would never do anything to compromise the teams’, our retail shops’, or our sponsors’ good names. Team Bulldog is widely known as good sportsmen.
Team Bulldog is dedicated to the sport of mountain bike racing. Our riders are respectful individuals and we help to educate new riders to maintain this high level of respect. We are serious athletes who have a very professional approach to our racing and training and understand the necessity of being an involved and responsible racer of a sponsored squad.
