Who is Team Bulldog?
Team Bulldog is more than just a racing team. In the past 16
years, we’ve grown from a group of junior racers (under 18) to a
well-established team that includes men and women of all ages and
abilities. With 27 members on our current roster, new members join
our ranks on a regular basis. Team Bulldog prides itself on our
commitment to our sport, our community and the environment.
Every year Team Bulldog Racers
push themselves further and further on the race course. Although we are
a strong and unified team, cycling is ultimately a solo sport, and
sometimes a lonely one at that. We did not let these and the other
challenges presented to a competitive cyclist slow us down. Our racers
competed in many diverse events over the course of the 2006 race season.
These events range from the early season frigid road races to the muddy
spring mountain bike races to the NORBA Nationals to multi-day road
stage races to the dead-of-the summer Ultra-Endurance events. Our racers
love to race and our individual resumes really show this fact. With this
love comes a great passion and determination for the sport which leads
to excellent results. Team Bulldog racers never give up and never lose
the ideals of true sportsmanship. For 2007 we look forward to racing in
even more quality events!
Giving Back to our Sport:
Team Bulldog is actively involved in the Campmor H2H Regional Mountain
Bike Series, promoting and improving the cross-country mountain bike
racing forum in our region. Our Annual Bulldog Rump served as the third
race of the Campmor Series and draws racers from all across the
Tri-State area and beyond. This year, the Bulldog Rump was on the
National AMBC calendar (as it will be in 2007), a huge step forward for
Team Bulldog. The Bulldog Rump also served as the New Jersey State
Championship Cross-Country Race, which made for an even bigger event.
Our Spring race, The Annual Running of the Dogs is an event uniquely
geared towards bringing new racers to the sport.
Additionally this year we held New Jersey’s first every High School and
Middle School Mountain Bike Championship Race along with a Kids’ Race.
Almost 100 young racers, ages 5 to 18 attended the inaugural event and
all had a great time. It was wonderful to introduce our great sport to
so many young racers and to see the joy on their faces! We will be
holding this event again for 2007.
As an official United States Cycling Federation (USCF) member, Team
Bulldog promotes races annually in the four-race Augusta Cyclocross Race
Series, including the New Jersey State Championship Cyclocross Race.
With our mountain biking background, we bring a special element to the
‘cross scene, as well as some new competitors.
Each race that our team sponsors provides an excellent opportunity to
promote our sponsors. Hundreds of flyers are distributed by hand, and
through internet downloads, t-shirts are printed and banners are flown,
all bearing our sponsors logos. Racers visit our site, which prominently
showcases our sponsors and their links, both before and after the race.
Giving Back to our community:
As mentioned earlier, we held the first ever High School and Middle
School Race along with a Kids’ Race. We also held a kids’ race at our
Running of the Dogs event, and it was well received. These events help
to introduce young athletes to the sport of cycling and can lead them
down a positive path of health, fitness, and competition.
Group Rides:
Team Bulldog organizes several weekly rides of varying degrees of
technical difficulty. This is an excellent forum to introduce people to
the sport of cycling and to keep them involved; it also serves as an
avenue to recruit new members for Team Bulldog and to train riders to be
knowledgeable and safe.
Team Unity:
Year after year, Team Bulldog attracts new members while maintaining its
existing ones. As a team we have quarterly meetings to which all members
are invited to attend. At these meetings, members get a chance to
discuss not only promotion but they also discuss races, rides, and
cycling trips. It is this commitment to the community which allows team
members to embrace both the team and its sponsors. Spawning from this
team loyalty is the positive promotion of our sponsors, which is above
all the goal of sponsorship.
Giving back to the environment:
Fulfilling a long-standing tradition of giving back to the
trails where we ride and race, Team Bulldog contributes hundreds of
hours of trail maintenance each year. In the past several years we
have donated nearly 2,000 hours of trail maintenance and creation to the
parks of New Jersey. As a team, we were an integral part of
opening Kittatinny Valley State Park to mountain biking and have adopted
this park to care for its trails. Team Bulldog also helped restore
mountain biking to Waywayanda State Park after a six-year hiatus.
Mountain Creek Ski Resort, Vernon, NJ, was also re-opened to mountain
biking with a cross country trail system created primarily through the
efforts of Team Bulldog. We are proud that our sponsors are
associated with our works throughout the state.
Affiliations:
Team Bulldog is a member of NORBA (National
Off-Road Bicycle Association), IMBA (International Mountain Bike
Association), JORBA (Jersey Off-Road Bicycle Association), NJBA (New
Jersey Bicycle Association), and USCF (United States Cycling
Federation).
